JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-LACKLAND, Texas – Nearly 190 guests watched as 63 master sergeant selectees from the 37th Training Wing were officially inducted into the senior NCO ranks at the Gateway Club here Aug. 13.

Chief Master Sgt. Adam J. Vizi, 2nd Air Force command chief, was the guest speaker at the event. He shared nine things he’s learned through his time of being a senior NCO, beginning with “Never forget where you came from” and ending with “Be a leader who inspires your Airmen and intimidates our enemies!”

The theme for the evening was “Framing Future Leaders,” and according to Master Sgt. Roslyn Ball, 319th Training Squadron, framing the future of the Air Force is leveraged by the principles learned through experience.

“Our experience is full of concepts that we’ve placed in our leadership tool belt throughout the years,” said Ball, who was co-chairperson of the event planning committee. “Those principles will now be used as senior NCOs build the framework for those frontline supervisors.”

Master Sgt. Derrick C. Webb, one of the inductees, said he found the night surprisingly enjoyable, especially since he had initially not planned on going.

“I was apprehensive the event would feel forced, almost as if it would’ve been a ‘checking the box’ type of event,” said Webb, who’s assigned to the 737th Training Group. “I’ve been to those type of events and they usually turn out boring. However, from the team of my peers and leaders that made the night possible, to Chief Vizi’s nine points on how to be a great leader speech (that I felt was tailored specifically to me), it was one that I’ll never forget!”

Ball said the success of the event was due to her wingmen on the committee.

“Although each person was assigned their roles, everyone helped out with everything – the entire process! They were an amazing group of individuals to work with,” she added.
