Press Release - Port Hueneme Airman identified following death

An Airman assigned to the 346th Training Squadron at Port Hueneme, Calif. died during a routine physical training assessment Aug. 4.

Airman First Class Syamukonka Moonga collapsed during the physical training assessment. His teammates and on-site Military Training Leaders immediately began life-saving measures, which were continued by medical personnel upon their arrival, but unfortunately, he could not be revived.

The incident is under investigation, as standard procedure, to determine the circumstances surrounding Moonga's death.

“We mourn the loss of Airman First Class Moonga, a young Airman with a bright future. His joy, kindness, and enthusiasm will be deeply missed. Our thoughts are with Syamukonka’s family, friends, and fellow service members during this difficult time,” said Lt. Col. Jonathan Ely, commander, 346th Training Squadron.

The 346th Training Squadron provides initial and supplemental training to Vehicle Maintenance and Management professionals at Port Hueneme, California. It is one of four geographically separated units under the 37th Training Group, which is aligned under the 37th Training Wing.
