Pledge reaffirms MTI commitment Published Aug. 17, 2012 By Mike Joseph JBSA-Lackland Public Affairs 8/17/2012 -- The Air Force's newest military training instructors reaffirmed their commitment to Air Force Core Values and future basic military trainees when the six MTIs recited a new pledge during their graduation ceremony Aug. 10. Taken for the first time by MTI School graduates, the MTI pledge details the responsibilities, standards, conduct and professionalism expected of every training instructor. In addition to reciting the pledge at the beginning of MTI School and at graduation, MTIs will also reaffirm that commitment vocally to squadron leadership and incoming basic trainees every time an MTI is introduced to a new training flight. The wording of the pledge was coordinated by Chief Master Sgt. Kenneth Williams, 737th Training Group superintendent. Williams said the MTIs' reaffirmation now mirrors the trainees' commitment to the Air Force. "I find this new MTI Pledge reasserts our commitment not only to the Air Force, but to our Airmen," said Williams. "The new military training instructors are administered the pledge by their instructor when they first enter MTI school. "I think it speaks to the very pillars of what we expect from our MTIs," he said. "Each stanza in the pledge is broken down and given meaning by an instructor. "Not only do we administer the pledge in school, when our MTIs graduate, we have a commander administer it to them at graduation," he added. Williams, the senior enlisted leader at Air Force Basic Military Training, said developing the pledge was a collaborative effort between military training instructors and leadership. "The pledge is very public," said Williams, a former MTI. "They're making a visible commitment to the trainees and the Air Force about the seriousness we take in preparing these young men and women for military service. It's an assurance that we're going to protect those entrusted to our care."
