Joint Base San Antonio youths have to opportunity to get a taste of what their deployed parents go through 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 11 during Operation Junior Expeditionary Team.

Registration for the event, which regularly draws more than 200 participants, runs until 2 p.m. July 29.

Operation JET aims to bring the realities of the deployment process to life for young military family members aged 9 and up. The experience starts at a mock recruiting center, where each kid gets their own personal identification cards and uniform T-shirts before receiving their deployment orders. From there, the group heads to the Lackland Youth Center, where they will receive a mission brief before starting a comprehensive tour of different job sites and aircraft displays on base.

The goal isn't just to impress kids undertaking a simulated deployment, but also to inspire them through showing how much career variety the Air Force has to offer.

Call 671-3772 or email 802fss.fsfr@us.af.mil to register by the July 29 deadline. Space is limited.
