Padin has volunteered to decorate all three trees of Joint Base San Antonio for the past four years. The trees are location on JBSA-Lackland, JBSA-Randolph, and JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. Along with making some of the decorations herself, Padin goes to each tree to coordinate where each decoration is positioned.

The Departments of Defense and Veterans Affairs combined efforts to allow Commissary and Exchange use beyond its current patron base. Starting Jan. 1, 2020, Purple Heart recipients, former prisoners of war, all service-connected disabled veterans and caregivers enrolled in the VA's Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers program will be permitted to shop there.

Guy Gruters, a former F-100 Super Sabre pilot and prisoner of war, administers the Oath of Enlistment during a U.S. Air Force basic military graduation Nov. 8, 2019, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Gruters was an F-100 pilot for more than 20 years and spent more than five of those years as POW in a Vietnam internment camp. His decorations include more than thirty combat awards, including two Silver Stars, two Distinguished Flying Crosses, two Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star Medal for Valor, the POW Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation and 20 Air Medals.

Lance Sijan's sister, answered questions from the audience consisting of Airmen and Air Force civilians during the showing of a documentary film of Sijan's captivity called “SIJAN: A Quest for Freedom” Nov. 7, 2019, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas. Capt. Sijan is the only Congressional Medal of Honor recipient alumni of the U.S. Air Force Academy was forced to eject from his fighter jet over Laos. He was on his 52nd combat mission. He faced severe injuries, including several broken bones. But for 46 days, he managed to evade enemies with little food or water. Sijan was eventually captured and tortured as a Prisoner of War. He attempted to escape several times but was recaptured and beaten. The last person who saw him alive was Air Force Captain Guy Gruters.
