From Mexico to military excellence: The journey of Tech Sgt. Alejandra Ortega Mejia
Staff Sgt. Alejandra Ortega Mejia performs maintenance on the centrifuge at the 342nd Training Squadron at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, Sept. 5. The 342 TRS is one of six squadrons in the 37th Training Group which is responsible for professional and technical training for more than 36,000 personnel yearly. The squadron, commanded by Lt. Col. Christianne Opresko, is home to the Aerospace Physiology technical school for officers and technicians, providing initial and refresher training for all aircrew, and acceleration training for all fighter aircrew. Mother of fallen Defender ‘marches on’ honoring son
Jiffy Helton-Sarver presents the 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton Jr. Leadership Award to 2nd Lt. Kensie Parmer, U.S. Air Force Security Forces Basic Officer Course graduate. Helton-Sarver joins U.S. Air Force Security Forces Basic Officer Course students on their 4-mile graduation ruck in memory of her son on August 15, 2024, at Joint Base San Antonio-Camp Bullis, Texas. Her son, 1st Lt. Joseph D. Helton Jr., served as a security forces officer assigned to the 6th Security Forces Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, Fla. Helton was killed by an explosively formed projectile that hit his vehicle Sept. 8, 2009, during a deployment to Baghdad, supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. The 343rd Training Squadron honors Helton’s legacy and heroism at every Basic Officer Course graduation and Helton-Sarver marches alongside the students throughout every graduation ruck. . MWD Program strengthens families and the force
Maxine Ababa, senior protocol specialist at the 37th Training Wing, pets Military Working Dog AAbaba Aug. 17, 2023. Ababa reunited with her former MWD foster pup following his graduation from the MWD training program. MWD AAbaba was born and bred at the 341st Training Squadron at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, where he completed his explosive detection and patrol training. About a year following the death of her late husband, Ababa had the opportunity to foster an MWD, suitably named AAbaba, from the 341st Training Squadron’s breeding program. Spring 2023 Invitational Drill Down
37th Training Wing Command Chief, Mike Morgan, calls out facing movements during the Spring 2023 Invitational Drill Down, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, Mar. 11. Teams from the 81st Training Wing at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss.; 17 TRW at Goodfellow AFB, Texas, 82 TRW at Sheppard AFB, Texas, the 59 Medical Training Group at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas; and the 37 TRW participated. The teams performed a precision drill and exhibition routine. The event also featured a performance from the Fredericksburg High School Red Hotts dance team, the 341st Military Working Dogs and the University of Texas San Antonio Reserve Officer Training Corps presented the colors. The 82 TRW was awarded first place overall, followed by the 37 TRW placing second and the 81 TRW placed third.
