Echo Flight Beta Test, DLIELC
US Air Force Echo Flight trainees attend their distance learning classes in the 737 TRSS learning lab. Although separated physically from their classmates to due to COVID-19 precautions, the trainees are still joining distance classes with International Military Students and US Army Echo Co trainees.

Distance Learning
Technology has allowed some of the familiar aspect of the DLIELC classroom to stay. Here an instructor is projecting something onto the SMARTBoard which can be viewed by the students from their dorms. The current COVID-19 pandemic generated rapid growth and innovation at DLIELC, with the team being afforded the opportunity to test the implementation of open source and government technologies to continue their mission of language education, despite geographical separation for faculty and students. Until two weeks ago, all of DLIELC’s academic instruction was conducted in a classroom setting using printed books. Distance learning had never been part of the DLIELC framework, until now.

An instructor uses Schoology to converse with his students from their dorms. The program even allowed instructors to use a forum for sharing of information and relevant classroom videos. One of the neat features of Zoom allows students and teachers converse face-to-face while not even being in the classroom. Here an instructor is able to uphold the important face-to-face portion of language learning even at a distance. DLIELC Mobile Training Team in Vietnam
DLIELC upholds the US partnership with Vietnam in many ways. On-campus, DLIELC hosts students from all of Vietnam's branches of military. Pictured is CPT Dinh Mong Bui of the Vietnmanese Army in his General English (GE) classroom. Once graduated from GE, CPT Bui will continue his English Language Training in the Basic American Language Instructor Course (BALIC).

DLIELC Logistics employee, Mr. Ernest Banda, prepares the shipment of course materials for the Vietnam MTT. All course materials were created, designed, and printed in-house. In FY19, DLIELC sent materials to over 160 countries.

Echo Company trainees eat lunch at the Amigo Inn, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. Like in the Basic Combat Training (BCT) Echo Co trainees go to meals in formation and then spend a set amount of time at their meal before leaving, again in formation, to their next destination. Along with English language training and pre-basic training, trainees have the opportunity to react with the 70 other unique countries on campus at one time.
