Military members stand at attention as the service flags are raised at the U.S. Military Working Dog Teams National Monument Oct. 28, at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. JBSA-Lackland is the home to the Department of Defense Military Working Dog Program and is where the U.S. Armed Forces has been training its military working dog teams since 1958. It is the world's largest training center for military dogs and handlers and is also home to the largest veterinary hospital for military working dogs.

Military Working Dogs
U.S. Air Force Security Forces military working dog handlers take part in the Air Education and Training Command Defender Challenge team tryout at Joint Base San Antonio-Medina Annex, Texas, Jan. 28, 2020. The five-day selection camp includes a physical fitness test, M-9 and M-4 weapons firing, the alpha warrior obstacle course, a ruck march and also includes a military working dog tryout as well. A total of 27 Airmen, including five MWD handlers and their canine partners, were invited to tryout for the team. The seven selectees to the AETC team will represent the First Command at the career field’s world-wide competition that will be held at JBSA-Camp Bullis in May 2020.

DLIELC Mobile Training Team in Vietnam
DLIELC upholds the US partnership with Vietnam in many ways. On-campus, DLIELC hosts students from all of Vietnam's branches of military. Pictured is CPT Dinh Mong Bui of the Vietnmanese Army in his General English (GE) classroom. Once graduated from GE, CPT Bui will continue his English Language Training in the Basic American Language Instructor Course (BALIC).

The members gathered at Joint JBSA-Lackland this week for the first USAF Military Working Dog Kennel Master's Workshop. This multi-domain initiative will aid in reconstituting MWD efforts by restoring lethality to Security Forces through training and development. As an effort to reconstitute Defenders this training opportunity allows for the professional development of MWD personnel, dissemination of mandated information, cross talk on important matters in the career field, to bring in subject matter experts that affect the MWD Program and encourage professional networking. The conference directly supports and enhances Security Forces mission essential tasks to support the Military Working Dog program by building force proficiency and streamlining productivity similar to the collaborative efforts of our sister services. Military Working Dog
The 341st Training Squadron provides training to military working dogs (MWDs) used in patrol, drug and explosive detection, and specialized mission functions for the Department of Defense (DoD) and other government agencies. Personnel conduct operational training of MWD handlers and supervisors and sustain DoD MWD program through logistical support, veterinary care, and research and development for security efforts worldwide.
